Do I need specific scuba diving travel insurance?

Here is why specialist scuba diving travel insurance from Yellow Jersey is essential.

Most standard travel insurance only covers scuba diving when it is incidental to your trip and often restricts you to shallow, recreational depths. Many policies stop at 15 or 30 metres and exclude wrecks, caves, ice diving and mixed gases entirely. If diving is the main purpose of your holiday, the free cover from your bank or the cheapest online policy usually will not protect you when it counts.

Yellow Jersey’s scuba diving travel insurance is built for divers who take their sport seriously. We cover Scuba Diving Advanced with depth protection up to 40 metres, including wreck diving, cave diving, ice diving to 20 metres and the use of mixed gases. You are also protected for emergency medical treatment, evacuation, lost or damaged dive equipment and trip cancellation when diving conditions force you to change plans.

Whether you are joining a liveaboard, completing advanced training or planning a dedicated scuba holiday, you can dive with confidence knowing you have specialist cover designed for real underwater adventures.

Ask yourself two questions about your current travel insurance –

Have I checked if it covers me for risks associated with scuba diving?

e.g. decompression sickness?

Have I checked if it covers me if the primary purpose of travel is scuba diving?

e.g. a Red Sea scuba diving trip

Scuba Diving Travel Insurance

Our Scuba Diving Travel Insurance covers emergency medical expenses, repatriation, and trip cancellation on top of lots of other scuba specific features you cant get from a generic travel insurer.

Buying travel insurance for scuba diving shouldn’t feel like deciphering a dive table from the 1980s. Just like winter sports cover, scuba deserves its own specialist protection, so we’ve stripped out the jargon and made everything simple, clear and built for people who actually get in the water. Whether you are diving every day on a liveaboard or squeezing in a few fun dives around a bigger adventure, we are ready to cover your next descent.

Scuba diving travel insurance vs  GENERIC TRAVEL insurance?

Most standard travel policies leave divers high and dry. Shallow depth limits, no wrecks, no caves, no mixed gases and nothing for the bends or dodgy conditions. Great for city breaks, not so great when you are halfway down a line looking at a rusted hull. Our scuba travel insurance goes deeper. We cover medical mishaps, lost kit and dives cancelled because the sea decides not to play ball, with protection all the way down to 40 metres. We even include ice diving to 20 metres. You just need the right qualification for the dives you are doing, or to be under the instruction of a qualified instructor, and all activities must follow proper safety measures. Clear cover. Real diving. No surprises.
If you take several trips throughout the year, an annual policy may be better value.

Annual or Short Term

A Travel lots, pay less

Committing to an annual policy can often work out better value than buying cover for each trip, while still keeping you protected for every weekend diving adventure or week-long holiday abroad.

Plus, our policies can cover multiple sports, so you could be set for your diving adventures and still have cover ready for your winter skiing trip; no last-minute insurance scramble required.

B No commitment

Not travelling all the time, or not ready to sign up for a full year? No worries. Our short-term, single-trip policies might cost a little more per trip, but they give you all the flexibility you need and the same handy suite of covers as our annual travellers.

Discounts

Heading off with your other half or the whole gang? We think that should be fun, not a headache for your wallet. That’s why couples get a break on the second traveller. One policy covers you both, and let’s be honest, one set of claims is usually enough drama for anyone.

Families get an even sweeter deal. Extra kids are added at a lower rate, so a family of four ends up paying just a little more than two adults. Single parents, don’t worry, the same clever scaling applies. Basically, we won’t charge you double just because there are more of you.

It all makes sense: more people on one policy doesn’t mean double the risk, and it certainly doesn’t mean double the paperwork. So grab your crew, pack your bags, and enjoy the trip. We’ve got the cover sorted at a fair price, no fuss, no nonsense.
