Traditional travel insurance companies have quite rightly seen Ironman events as a significant risk. The huge distances involved in Ironman racing can mean very long periods cycling and running, opening competitors up to a high risk of injury. It is absolutely essential to have appropriate Ironman travel Insurance cover in place before traveling to your race destination, but it can be difficult to find a company willing to cover you.

Most mountain resorts only have private hospitals whilst state hospitals are few and far between in most of Spain and Portugal.

Most Ironman athletes don’t need telling that a free travel policy through their bank account or work isn’t likely to cover Ironman competition. As one of the toughest events we can enter as triathletes, Ironman presents a clear risk that we need to prepare for. Our travel insurance automatically covers all forms of bicycle and triathlon racing, including Ironman.

Ironman SPECIFIC or GENERIC TRAVEL?

As fellow triathletes we were very aware that standard travel insurance was not reflecting the needs of triathletes. We have worked with our customers to design an Ironman insurance policy which fits the needs of endurance triathletes, without sacrificing any aspect of a standard travel insurance products.

We realised most people were unaware of the restrictions on insurance policies provided by standard holiday insurance providers. If you’re racing in an Ironman event or even just training for one on holiday, your regular travel insurance is likely inadequate.

If you are taking several trips over the course of the year, it may work out as better value to take out an annual policy.

Annual or Short Term

A Travel lots, pay less

By spreading the risk over 12 months we can reduce the rates for you, while still providing cover for every Ironman event, holiday and training camp you enjoy abroad.

Our annual policies also include winter sports cover, so purchasing an annual travel insurance before your Ironman event in the summer could save you the hassle of finding another insurer before your skiing trip in the winter.

B No commitment

For those who don’t travel so frequently or don’t want the commitment, we also offer short term, single-trip policies. Whilst these are obviously more expensive pro-rata, they offer great flexibility and the same cover afforded to regular travellers.

Discounts

With discounts available for Families and Couples, there is no need to purchase separate annual travel insurance if you’re not all going to be riding. If you travel with you partner we offer them a 50% discount.

For a family policy with two adults, your first child will be added to the policy for half the price, and any more will be added for free. The same discount is available for single parent families where you pay for one adult.

If you are organising a trip with your triathlon club, our group discount allows parties of 5 – 10 people to travel on one policy with a 5% discount.

Since active people rarely confine themselves to a single discipline, our annual policies also include free winter sports cover.

Cycling travel insurance quotes are based on a 35-year-old single male traveller, and the maximum trip length for annual policies was set at 30 days for all policies where the option was given. The cycle travel insurance quotes are done on a similar level of cover to the Yellow Jersey cycle travel cover.
