In addition to getting fit and a deep sense of personal achievement, fundraising for a charity event gives you that added purpose and motivation. When the sun-kissed pub garden is calling, you’ll be more inclined to get up and go training if you’re supporting a good cause, helping real people and changing lives. As well as raising money, you’ll help raise awareness of the charity and the work which they do. Plus there’s often great camaraderie amongst participants and you’ll receive plenty of support from the side-lines too!

There are thousands of charity events organised here in UK, with one of the largest and most famous, the London Marathon, taking place this weekend. This is by no means the definitive guide to the best charity events but instead, a collection of some which Yellow Jersey are proud to work with.

Bloodwise London to Paris, 2018

Thursday, 13th to Sunday, 16th September

This iconic route is on many a cyclist’s bucket list, so why not ride it for a good cause?

This four day cycling event covers 500km. Cycling as part of a peloton with rolling road closures, technical and physio back-up teams and a dramatic Arc de Triomphe finale, you’ll feel like a pro!

You’ll cycle through the rolling hills of Kent and the plains of Normandy, through the streets of London Town and the Champs-Élysées. Riding with hundreds of fellow bike enthusiasts, you’ll be led by experienced ride captains through beautiful countryside, cheered on by street-side supporters and flanked by motorcycle outriders.

Bloodwise fund world-class research, provide practical and emotional support to patients and their loved ones and raise awareness of blood cancer.

Now in its 5th year the event has raised more than £2.5million.

Dallaglio Cycle Slam, 2018

Sunday, 27th May to Thursday, 14th June

The Dallaglio Cycle Slam is Dallaglio RugbyWorks 1,800km cycling challenge taking on the French and Swiss Alps, Italian lakes and stunning scenery of Slovenia and Croatia.

The event sees up to 200 dedicated riders commit to cycling ambitious and physically challenging European routes over a three week period. The event is split into three stages of five days cycling with 30 core riders completing the whole three week challenge, alongside Lawrence Dallaglio himself.

Dallaglio RugbyWorks is a long-term intensive skills development programme, based on the values of rugby, delivered to 14-17 year olds outside of mainstream education. Working in over 40 Alternative Provision Schools within the UK, RugbyWorks gives disengaged young people who have been failed by mainstream education, the practical support, experience and ability to help them believe and invest in the possibility of a future in sustained education, employment or training.

Also in its 5th year, the event is on track to raise over £1,000,000.

Castle Triathlon Series, 2018

The Castle Triathlon Series runs from May to September across five castle venues here in the UK and at Château de Chantilly in France. The multisport festivals have a range of distances and race types to choose from, from a Starter Triathlon (200m/13km/2km) to a Bastion Full Iron Distance (3.8km/180.2km/42.2km). Courses are lined by spectators and each idyllic venue has a festival village with yoga, food and retail stalls, live music, climbing walls and bouncy castles.

Castle series are partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support and if you choose to fundraise for them, your entry is free.

With one in two people being directly affected by cancer at some point in their lives, Macmillan Cancer Support aims to be there for every person at the point of diagnosis.

This year, Castle Triathlon Series is celebrating its 10th birthday with 100,000 competitors taking part and more than £1,000,000 raised for charity.
