The countdown to one of the biggest summers in British cycling is officially underway! The full routes for the 2027 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift have now been unveiled, with Britain preparing to host the opening three stages of both races.
For the first time, both the men’s and women’s Grand Départs will take place in Britain in the same year, bringing six stages of world-class racing to roads across Scotland, England and Wales.
With everything from challenging climbs in the Welsh valleys to a spectacular team time trial through central London, there’s plenty for cycling fans to look forward to.
Tour de France 2027: From Edinburgh to Cardiff
The men’s race gets underway in Edinburgh on Friday 2 July 2027, marking the first time the Tour de France has started in Scotland.
Over three days, the peloton will travel south through some of Britain’s most impressive landscapes, taking in the Scottish Borders, Lake District and Welsh valleys before finishing in Cardiff.
The three British stages are:
Stage 1, Friday 2 July: Edinburgh to Carlisle (184km)
Stage 2, Saturday 3 July: Keswick to Liverpool (223km)
Stage 3, Sunday 4 July: Welshpool to Cardiff (223km)
The opening stage could offer the sprinters an early opportunity to claim the famous yellow jersey, while Stage Two introduces more challenging terrain as riders make their way through the Lake District towards Liverpool.
Stage Three promises an exciting finale to the British Grand Départ. With eight categorised climbs between Welshpool and Cardiff, including the famous Caerphilly Mountain in the closing kilometres, the riders will have plenty to contend with before reaching the Welsh capital.
Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift: Three Stages Across England
Just a few weeks later, it’s the turn of the women’s peloton, with the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift making its British debut on Friday 30 July 2027.
The race will begin in Leeds before heading across the Pennines to Manchester. Stage Two will then take riders towards Sheffield, with challenging climbs through the Peak District expected to provide some early drama.
The three British stages are:
Stage 1, Friday 30 July: Leeds to Manchester
Stage 2, Saturday 31 July: Manchester to Sheffield
Stage 3, Sunday 1 August: London team time trial (18km)
The third stage is particularly exciting, featuring the first team time trial in the modern history of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.
Riders will race through the heart of London, starting at Whitehall and passing iconic landmarks including the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral and Trafalgar Square before finishing on The Mall.
It’s set to be a fantastic spectacle and a brilliant opportunity to watch some of the world’s best female cyclists competing on British roads.

A Huge Opportunity for British Cycling
The return of the Tour de France is about much more than professional racing.
The previous British Grand Départs in London in 2007 and Yorkshire in 2014 demonstrated just how much excitement the Tour can generate, with huge crowds turning out to watch the action.
With both races visiting Britain in 2027, there’s another opportunity to introduce people to cycling, encourage more riders to get involved and showcase some of the fantastic cycling destinations we have across the country.
Here at Yellow Jersey, we’re particularly excited about the prospect of six stages of racing on home soil. Whether you’re planning to watch from the roadside or feeling inspired to tackle some of the routes yourself, the summer of 2027 is shaping up to be one to remember.
