On Saturday 29th August 2015, team Viribus Audax, will commence one of the most challenging events in cycling; the Race Across Europe.
The race across Europe, is almost 3000 miles starting in Calais. It tracks north through the French Ardennes and crosses the Rhine into Germany. From here it climbs briefly into the Black Forest and onto a high plain that traverses east across Germany into Austria, Italy, and then immediately east into Slovenia to cross the Vrsic Pass. The route then descends back into Italy and heads due west, crossing the Col de Larche and back into France. Through Provence, over Mont Ventoux, then south into the Languedoc Roussillon to cross the eastern Pyrenees into Spain. Spain provides consistently good road cycling all the way to the orange groves of Andalucia and the final rolling roads to Gibraltar, with views of the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea and mountainous North African coastline.
After meeting Yellow Jersey at Dambuster Triathlon earlier this year, you can safely say I have been pestering them to support our teams quest to conquer Europe. During the event we will be wearing Yellow Jersey cycle caps and jerseys. Hopefully the weather will be kind enough to allow us to use the hats as sun visors rather than rain deflectors, although I fear at some point the hats may be used as an extra layer of warmth! Fingers crossed!!!
Throughout the event, we will be raising awareness for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, and if you wish to donate, you can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/Viribus-Audax. You can also follow our progress across Europe; keep checking www.theraceacrosseurope.co.uk for updates from the GPS trackers we will be carrying, allong with our facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds.
So all the months of preparation are almost done, time to pack our kit, pick up the vehicles, get some sleep and get ready for this! Bring it on!
